A patient accessible portal is much desired and much discussed. This is a place to gather some information about what a complete portal might have. It is in no way a complete list.

Wish List of Features

  • secure access protected by password with security administered by our staff.
  • ability to upload lab, other diagnostic reports and physician comments from EHR to portal
  • ability for patient to view and print uploaded labs, diagnostic reports and physician comments
  • ability for patient to book appointments based on type of appointment and doctor/NP to see.
  • inability for patient to view other patients information on schedule
  • inability for patient to book wrong type of appointment in a particular time slot (eg. book followup appointment in slot reserved for annual physical).
  • ability for patients to change upcoming appointments
  • inability for patients to view or change prior appointment history.
  • ability for system to call/email patients reminders about upcoming appointments.
  • ability for patient to create, view, and update demographic information with some fields marked as mandatory.
  • ability for patient to view but NOT change chart's clinical information including prescriptions and insurance.
  • ability for patient to view referral information, including outstanding referrals and contact information for specialist
  • ability for patient to write and submit messages to staff.
  • ability to capture patient activity into logs that can be viewed, printed and administered by staff.

There are others that I cannot bring to mind at this moment.
