Ensora Health (formerly NewCrop) eRx is a robust e-prescribing solution provided by Ensora Health LLC/ Scriptx and supported in OpenEMR.
In addition to basic e-prescribing of all medications to any registered pharmacy in the USA, Ensora Health also supports (list from their website):
:*Scalable, dynamic display responsive to all screen and window sizes, including mobile.
:*Record free-form drug and allergy records without the need of a medication database.
:*Map free-form allergies with codified instances to be included in future checks.
:*Queue saved diagnoses with your most written prescriptions.
:*Build custom SIGs for insulin drugs.
:*Consult pharmacogenomic support tools.
:*Use “strength unknown” when recording medications and still use them in interaction checking. No more guesswork.
:*Access a convenient map of drugs that are no longer available.
:*Write prescriptions for future dates.

===Meaningful Use===
A partnership of ZH Healthcare and Medical Information Integration, LLC (mi-squared) called ZMG created the Ensora Health interface for e-prescribing through OpenEMR. As of Dec 2020 were the only vendors ZH Healthcare and MI-Squared are authorized of Ensora Health eRx with OpenEMR. Med Boss Consulting has become an authorized vendor.
The Newcrop solution can be deployed to achieve Meaningful Use. The alternative is to add both the Allscripts website and the Greasemonkey script.
The Weno Exchange can possibly be used for Meaningful Use if these policies are enacted again in the future.

=='''Allscripts'''==
Subscribing to Ensora Health eRx is a simple matter of contracting for the desired services and support with the vendor, who then configures some OpenEMR globals settings with their Ensora Health account connectors.  Assuming that the patient demographics and the facility and user data are properly formed, the subscriber is ready to use Ensora Health's regular eRx immediately.

Electronic Prescription of Controlled Substances (EPCS) is an optional separate add-on subscription requiring an 'Identity Proofing' (IDP) process of the applicant.  The steps for EPCS and regular eRx are the same except for entering a 6-digit One Time Password (OTP) when their batch of orders contains a controlled substance.
Please note that the demo video that used to be on this page has been taken down.  As of 2019, Ensora Health demo videos presented by outfits other than Ensora Health themselves are not authorized.  Additionally, if they exist, they may be long out of date.

    '''Compliance & Functionality:''' OpenEMR iFrames WOL's DEA 1311.120 compliant eRx screens in OpenEMR's dashboard.

    '''Automatic Sync:''' Patient records sync automatically from OpenEMR, eliminating duplicate patient entry.

    '''Scalable:''' There are no limitations on the number of clinics or prescribers.

    '''Network Connection:''' Connected to the WENO intermediary network for routing NewRx and CancelRxs to pharmacies.

:*After logging on, the patient data will populate automatically if an account had been created previously.  If a new account needs to be established, click the "Add Patient" button.
    '''Global Support:''' WENO supports ePrescribing for the US, International, narcotics (EPCS), and Veterinarian use.

:*In the Add New Patient screen, click the "Load from OpenEMR" button to import the data and click "Save".

===Non-Functioning===
    '''Start in Test Mode:''' Begin with free testing in TEST MODE, then switch to live when ready.
If both the split screen login and the "Load From OpenEMR" button are non-functional; the cause stems from the fact that the version of Firefox, when first installed, pre-dated version 31.0.  Firefox underwent major changes with 31.0.  Upgrading to the latest version will not permit the script to work properly, thus the following steps are necessary.

:*Uninstall Greasemonkey and the script.
    '''Go Live:''' The $400 Sign-on Fee is required to move the account off TEST MODE and enable live prescribing.
:*Browser customizations should be preserved with Sync.
:*Uninstall Firefox and reinstall the latest version.
:*Reinstall Greasemonkey and the Allscripts IntegrationMM script.

=====WENO Transaction Routing Rules=====

===Understanding Weno:===
WENO ensures all electronic prescriptions (eRx) are legally routed to the designated pharmacies. Prescribers receive full eRx credit for the transaction.

Weno is a message gateway that is going up against SureScripts.
:*RULE 1 '''(Preferred):''' Route the eRx directly to the pharmacy's software - if it is connected to the WENO Intermediary network.
The Weno system is a hybrid system that can send a prescription to a pharmacy via electronic message or fax.
Either way it is counted as electronic prescribing by CMS.

The benefit to a practice is that no matter how the prescription arrives at the pharmacy from Weno.
At attestation, the practice can be credited with using eRx.

:*A partnership with Weno Exchange will be bringing a free Rx service to the OpenEMR platform.
:*The reason that the service will be free is that the pharmaceutical company will be paying us incentives from the prescribing volume
:*This money will be used to continually build and enhance the interface and 5% of the proceeds will be donated the OpenEMR project.
:*A first draft has been submitted for review and we are hard at work on the second draft.
:*We are hoping to make it into the 5.0.0 for prescribing none narcotics and refill Rx.
:*More to come.

:*RULE 2 '''(Fallback):''' If the pharmacy is not directly connected, the eRx is routed to WENO Online's free pharmacy stand-alone application. The pharmacy receives a fax alert with instructions on how to process the electronic version. The pharmacy must either process from the fax (if allowed) or register for a free WENO Online account to use as a bridge application.

After the meeting with Tina to review the software workflow, she suggested the change below. The system will utilize the pharmacy setting in the patient demographics. And offer and mail order pharmacy. The mail order pharmacy is cheaper and convenient for the patient.
=====Cost=====
The Weno connected pharmacies will be factored in at a later date. Right now we solved the issue of the current pharmacies in a practice database.

The confirmation on the page is a real time response from the Weno system. It takes approximately up to 10 sec.

Overview

There are currently two known options for e-prescribing in OpenEMR.

Newcrop, a subscription service, is well integrated into OpenEMR.

Weno Exchange a subscription service,is well integrated for narcotic/ECPS. (updated 27 May 2024)

Ensora Health

Ensora Health (formerly NewCrop) eRx is a robust e-prescribing solution provided by Ensora Health LLC/ Scriptx and supported in OpenEMR. In addition to basic e-prescribing of all medications to any registered pharmacy in the USA, Ensora Health also supports (list from their website):

  • Scalable, dynamic display responsive to all screen and window sizes, including mobile.
  • Record free-form drug and allergy records without the need of a medication database.
  • Map free-form allergies with codified instances to be included in future checks.
  • Queue saved diagnoses with your most written prescriptions.
  • Build custom SIGs for insulin drugs.
  • Consult pharmacogenomic support tools.
  • Use “strength unknown” when recording medications and still use them in interaction checking. No more guesswork.
  • Access a convenient map of drugs that are no longer available.
  • Write prescriptions for future dates.

The only video of an example of general usage that I know of is this one, which shows OpenEMR's walkthrough of the G3 Usability testing performed in 2015. As it happens that G3 testing used the Ensora Health eRx service.

NOTE: The video shows Ensora Health v1, which has been superseded by v2, which contains major interface changes and does not visually resemble v1 at all.
